Personal Learning Programme (PLP)

At Applebee Wood we believe that PLP provides students the opportunity to reflect upon their learning and shape their future.

We aim to provide enrichment opportunities that equip pupils with life skills that prepare them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life. We aim to encourage pupils to develop independence and self-help skills and to become actively involved in the wider community.

PLP helps our pupils to develop life skills as part of their Preparation for Adulthood that will lead to a fulfilled, more independent, healthy adult life. Pupils are transferring their literacy, numeracy and communication skills from the classroom out into the community.

There are many different skills that our pupils learn and they thrive from these new experiences.

Preston North End Community and Education Trust’s secondary school provision programme is for Year 10 and Year 11 students that may benefit from working in a sporting environment, providing bespoke qualifications.

The programme is designed for hard-to-reach Key Stage 4 students who are disengaged with their school-based studies, lacking in confidence or self-esteem or displaying poor attendance in the standard school environment.

The Trust is now offering a range of courses that help to keep students engaged in their work and maintain their focus, also providing opportunities to learn new skills, too.

Students can choose to study with Preston North End as one of their GCSE options with a two-year course in sport or enterprise available, contributing to their progress eight score.
