Curriculum Pathways

Explorers

The Explorers Curriculum focusses on providing a sensory-rich and play-based learning environment for our pupils with more complex learning needs. In the Explorers Curriculum we emphasize the development of communication skills, sensory exploration and promoting physical well-being through personalised access to specialised therapies such as speech and language, physiotherapy, and rebound therapy. The Curriculum aims to foster independence and self-help skills, while recognising the unique needs of each learner allowing them to fulfill their potential through exploration and developing skills in a natural and engaging way, fostering social skills, emotional regualtion and self- awareness. We explore Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts through topic-based learning and play.

Navigators

Our Navigators Curriculum is a personalised, practical and engaging approach designed to develop functional life skills, communication and independence. The Curriculum is designed through a Thematic approach that connects learning to real-life experiences. Our Navigators Currciulum is tailored to meet the unique needs of each learner, recognising that their learning styles and abilities may vary greatly. The learning will be centred around functional skills and activities that are relevant to the pupils and taught in a thematic approach allowing the pupils to make connections between different subjects and experiences. Developing verbal and non-verbal communication skills, practicing skills relevant to daily life, developing fine and gross motor skills, ensuring appropriate social behaviour, exploring the physical world and community, engaging in hands on activities are all some of the skills that are taught through the Navigators Currciulum.

Pioneers

The Pioneers Curriculum is a more Formal Curriculum that is adapted to meet the individual needs and abilities of our pupils. This Curriculum pathway is designed to develop thinking and independent learning skills. An Emphasis is placed on practical, life-relevant skills and pupils will be encouraged to become active learners, taking responsibility for their learning and exploring the world around them. Life-skills will be interwoven through-out the Curriculum, promoting independence and self-reliance. The Pioneers Curriculum promotes positive relationships, social skills and emotional regulation.
